The Starter package is a sample of our work on five spreads, in whichever format you choose. You pay a 50 % deposit before we begin. The preview comes as low-resolution, watermarked files that cannot be printed. If you are genuinely unhappy with it, we go no further, the deposit is all you have paid and nothing more is due. If the design convinces you, you settle the rest of the package price and we agree the scope of the full book from the price list below.
What a book costs in total
Design and printing are two separate items. So that you do not have to add them up yourself, here is the total for a book of the standard 26 pages:

Print prices are indicative, based on the Saal Digital price list. They vary with format, paper, binding and cover — and another manufacturer may charge differently. Delivery is not included. You will get the exact figure in a written quote after the consultation, before you pay anything.

- Editing of every selected frame — cropping, exposure, colour, retouching, sharpening, noise reduction
- Photomontage and collage across the full spread
- Layout and typography for the agreed number of pages
- One round of your revisions
- Print-ready files for the manufacturer you choose
What is not included
- Printing and production. Charged by the manufacturer at their own rates. On request we place the order for you and have the book delivered.
- Spreads beyond the agreed scope. Charged according to your package.
- Additional revision rounds. One is included; repeated reworking is charged according to the price list.
Why 26 pages is the minimum
It is not our decision. Twenty-six pages is the minimum page count that photo-book manufacturers will print — below that a book cannot be bound. Thirteen spreads is therefore the minimum from which everything else is calculated.
How many spreads your book will need
That can only be said once we have seen the photographs. It depends on the subject, the number of usable frames and your budget. Two thousand photographs from a fortnight abroad make for a different book than photographs from a single weekend — and both can be good.
You do not have to decide in advance. Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will pin it down during the consultation, based on what is actually in the photographs.
How to choose a package
By subject, scope and budget — in that order. A wedding or a trip full of panoramas needs room, so a classic or premium format is usually the better choice. A baby book suits something smaller and more delicate. If you are unsure, leave it to the consultation; the format can still be changed before work begins.
